School 2.0 to me means using technology to teach rather than just pencil and paper. It means having the students make presentations using PowerPoint and the computer, and show casing their creations to the class as a whole. It means using their knowledge about how technology works to help the class. School 2.0 means using the new technology from doc cams to iPads and anything else new that comes out. As teachers we need to know how to use these instruments to help the children realize their full potential and keep them excited about class and wanting to come to school.
Schools in the future may not have a class that is just in their one state. A teacher one day may be able to help teach overseas without going overseas. Kids who are sick, whether just a cold or are in the hospital for any reason do not have to miss a class, the teacher can record their classes and post them on their website. This means that no child really will be left behind, because a teacher could use a Skype or oOvoo as a way to help tutor a child. It means so much for the future of teaching!
I love the thought of using new technologies in a classroom, like doc cams and iPads together to compare two different methods of working a problem. It's exciting for me.
I really enjoyed reading your blog. There were great points about how incorporating technology in the classroom gives you the opportunity to teach different methods of the same subject.
ReplyDeleteI never rally thought of Skype as an educational tool. I look forward to the day when I can be accessible to my students when they need help using Skype. I have always believe that being an educator is more than a career it is a lifestyle. I believe technology is going to not only ensure that students do not get left behind but allow schools to be more close knit in the future.
